The least dramatic thing we do, and the one that prevents the most expensive repairs. An oil change is also a chance for someone to put eyes on the rest of the car before a small problem turns into a tow.

While It Is On The Lift

We look at the things that are easy to see once the car is up — tire wear, obvious leaks, belts and hoses, brake condition. If something needs attention we tell you. If it can wait, we tell you that too, and roughly how long.

How Often

Follow the interval in your owner's manual rather than a number someone quoted you years ago — modern oils and engines have stretched it considerably, and the manual is specific to your car. If you do a lot of short trips, towing, or stop-and-go driving, come in nearer the short end of the range.
